Poignant -- shameful that we have this level of poverty and homelessness in America, moving that the human spirit and creative imagination can transform where no change seems possible

As gorgeous as Nickelsville is I cannot help but think we'll see many more tent cities in the near future.
A community of people trying to help each other the best they can when normal homeless services fail.
I know I say this far too often but I really do not have words for what I experienced today.
I am told that previous camps were much better developed. It's hard to keep maintained when you are constantly being evicted.
A sign hanging in the designated smoking area. They want to obey a city ordinance so smoking is only allowed in this area.

Great story and pictures. I love the fact that even though they have no home they try to make it as normal as possible. Their spirits are not broken.

While I was there updated information about the camp's situation and homeless services were handed out.
This tent stores clothing donations.

While I was homeless sleeping on the floor in Atlanta my clothes, ID and other items were stolen from a storage shed. I am glad they food and clothing donations. Those are important items when you are homeless.
